OUR CHURCH

St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church has rich history and strong family roots. We have been graced to have this blessed ministry for over 70 years, under the leadership of four beloved pastors. What started as a small church in a vacant lot in 1954 has evolved into a multi-generational place of worship for believers. We are proud of our humble roots and stand firmly on the foundation that has been set for us now and for generations to come.

MEET OUR PASTOR

Pastor Katana Austin-Burell, affectionately known as Pastor K, is a stellar leader with a heart of gold. She was installed as pastor on June 29, 2025 and is the first woman in this role at SMMBC. Pastor K was the wife to the wonderful Pastor Delbert R. Burell, Jr. (our third pastor) for 17 lovely years and our "First Lady" before his passing in June of 2024. By God's grace, she has accepted her calling to lead our church and further the mission at SMMBC. We are blessed to once again have faithful, humble, and authentic leadership.

OUR ROOTS

Before our current Pastor stepped into her role, SMMBC was blessed to have three phenomenal pastors lead our church. All of these men are now watching over us in heaven. Their legacies will be honored for generations to come.

Pastor Uzell Lewis

Pastor Lewis was our organizing pastor and the doors of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church were opened in 1954.

Pastor Alphonso Bryant, Sr.

Pastor Bryant served as Associate Minister under Pastor Lewis and was eventually elected as pastor in 1990. He served faithfully until 2002.

Pastor Delbert R. Burell, Jr.

Pastor Delbert R. Burell, Jr. was installed as pastor in 2002 and humbly served until he gained his wings in 2024. His legacy is continued by his wife and current pastor, Katana Austin-Burell.
